Mobile Passport allows you to securely store your passport information on your phone and to share them with selected parties. Mobile Passport is best known for its immigration service which enables U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors to expedite their entry process into the U.S. by simplifying the associated administration functions. Travelers may use the app to submit their passport and declaration information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) via their mobile device.

Please know that it takes a few seconds to unlock the Mobile Passport app after placing your finger for the TouchID or having FaceID recogincing your face. To set it up, make sure you turn on TouchID/Face ID in your device settings. After you open up the app and set up your PIN and passport profile, you will be asked if you'd like to activate TouchID/FaceID. Then, you will be asked two more times after logging in with your PIN. If you answer a total of three times with a "not now" response, the dialog will be skipped. To prompt the question again, you will need to reset the app.
Select the passport icon on the upper, right-hand side of the New Trip screen. Then, individually select the profile you would like to edit. Touch the field you would like to change. A keyboard or calendar will open to allow you to make the change(s) manually. To delete a passport profile on an iOS device: select the "Passport" tab on the app, then select the profile you wish to delete, scroll to the bottom, and select "Delete Passport" in the red bar. For an Android device: select the green "Passports" line at the top of the drop down menu (top, left of home screen). Then, swipe right or left to get the red bar that reads "DELETE" on the left.

Yes. Set up a PIN and/or TouchID to open the app on your device. Your personal data is saved on your mobile device and transmitted securely to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for review, just as it would be if you were using an Automated Passport Control kiosk. The Mobile Passport app does not share your personal data with third parties nor is your personal data saved on a virtual system. If you set up your passport on the app and decide to transmit it securely to CBP for review, your digital Encrypted Quick Response (QR) code will expire four (4) hours after submission. The Mobile Passport app gives you the option of storing your data on your device or deleting it after your trip. We welcome you to read through our Privacy Policy.
The Passport Scanner feature helps Mobile Passport users decrease time and error when creating a passport profile on the app. Instead of entering passport information manually, the Passport Scanner reads the MRZ (Machine Readable Passport Zone) code on the physical passport, which then automatically fills in the data fields on the app.

How it works:

  • Check your mobile device settings to allow the Mobile Passport app access to your camera
  • Open the Mobile Passport app, then select "Add Passport" and "Scan passport"
  • Check that the MRZ code is located in the drawn field
  • When the code is correctly positioned, the field color will turn green
  • Finished - Confirm that your data on the app appears exactly as it does on your physical passport.
  • For instance, under your Surname, it should list your last name. Under Given Names, it should list your first name SPACE middle name SPACE middle name, and so on. All hyphens and apostrophes should be replaced by a SPACE.

For accurate results, the Passport Scanner is made available to those devices meeting the required hardware specifications for a high-resolution camera, therefore not all devices include this feature at the moment. We are working on extending our device set. In the meantime, users may manually enter their passport information on the app.

Lastly, you may uninstall/reinstall the app. Please be aware that since the only place your data is saved is on the app on your device, all of the existing passport data will be deleted if you choose to reset your PIN.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “Trusted Traveler” programs and the Mobile Passport app are different, but they can complement each other.

Global Entry (aviation), Nexus (northern land border), and Sentri (southern land border) are "Trusted Traveler" programs, requiring a background check, fee, and interview. Once approved, you use a kiosk each time you arrive in the U.S., and then proceed to the designated lane where you will hand a paper receipt to a CBP officer and keep walking.

The Mobile Passport is a free app based on an automation program, meaning that it enables you to submit your passport and customs declaration information via your mobile device instead of the traditional paper form. It does not require a background check nor your "Trusted Traveler" number.

It is great to use both the “Trusted Traveler” programs and the Mobile Passport app so you can choose the shortest line and breeze through Customs on your preferred program. Your results may vary depending on the airport and the time of day.

Make sure not to use these programs interchangeably for the same inspections process.
